Need suggestions. . .

Bub has expressed an interest in knitting. And this is a good thing. I would love to teach him (in theory) and he's said he would like to knit himself a sweater. In practice, however, we're running into some difficulties. Maybe because he's only four, and maybe because he's not the most coordinated or perhaps because he doesn't have the best fine motor skills, but teaching to knit has been hard. Hell, it's been hard teaching him how to wind a center-pull ball and how to cast-on. So last weekend we tried crochet. He hated it. This weekend we tried knitting again, and then we also tried spool knitting. It was too difficult, at least the set-up. (For the spool knitting, it was hard for him to lift the loops over the other loops, tension issues, methinks.)

So then I was thinking loom knitting, but I saw some tutorials on YouTube, and it looks a bit more complicated than I think he can do.

So maybe those potholder looms, like this one? Any other thoughts, suggestions?
