I have a big deadline coming up in August so I think I've been subconsciously trying to finish second socks. This year, so far, has been all about socks, in fact. Check out the two pairs I've finished so far:
This yellow pair are Padded Footlets from the Interweave Knits Favorite Socks book. I wanted to learn the method where the bottom uses two lengths of yarn but the top is still one. It's quite fiddly and I don't think I'm going to even try to adapt it for Cat Bordhi's Riverbed Architecture. The yarn was Opal 4-ply that I bought somewhere, the contrast color being some leftover Zitron Trekking HandArt in Tundra.
This pink pair is Briggs and Little Durasport. I used the Wheat Ear Cable and ribbing where the knit was k-tbl. Afterwards, I reinforced the heel with some extra yarn. We'll see how it wears--if it's just as well as heel stitch, this is a lot faster to do so I may be in for a change.
I just peeked over to the Knitty site and saw these String Theory socks. I'd tried knitting Skew socks when they came out but they were too tight for my not-so-wide feet so they got frogged. I'm thinking of trying Skews again, but maybe I'll also try String Theory.

I'm almost done with my second pair of Skews. :) Love the Further Skewed modifications for my big wide feet. Glad the August deadline project is still on track! Do you have specific knitting requests for this project? :)
ReplyDeleteI'll have to check out the Skew modification because the pattern as written, was too narrow for my feet as well!
DeleteThe ladies in my knitting circle have taken it upon themselves to knit me a baby blanket, which seemed so sweet, and I am working on booties (not that I've started them yet). I have many Aviatrix hats from the last baby, but what I really need to do is work on some baby sweaters. It's often in the 50s over here, which is not *cold*, but chilly enough that a sweater would surely be needed.
Unfortunately, that plan has been put on hold for now, because I've just been exhausted. I haven't knit all week, not for want of time, but because my body just wants to sit (or lie down, as the case may be). I guess thirds have to be patient. =P
